[SOLVED] Support for Brother Printers

(And there isn't even an earlier post ;) )
With Mandriva, and with Mageia to begin with, my Brother MFCs have not worked from the USB connection, and I have been using the App-Socket connection on Port 9100. Brother Support said the problem was in Mandriva's udev rules, and gave up.

Yesterday, I installed a power saver supplied by our Government, which somehow blocked the printer (and wouldn't let my wife turn the TV on. I doubt that they meant it that way. :? ) Reconfiguring my MFC-490CW, I found that the USB connection now works. A wired connection avoids many problems.

I have been seeing repeated references to the buggy mess Mandriva was in when Mageia picked it up, one just a couple of days ago. This sounds like another one.

With Mandriva and even in Mageia 1, IIRC the brother printer from my parents needed to be changed in regards to the connection used in CUPS web frontend, from the default to the only other one offered over USB.
