Printer recommendation

Printer recommendation

Postby garymon » Jun 22nd, '12, 17:08

I am looking for an HP printer/scanner that prints good quality photos. I use print assistant in Gwenview to print.
Epson may be an alternative. Price range $100-$150.

Thanks, Gary

Hello,

HP and Brother have IMHO the best drivers for Linux. HP last very long. My older printer is a HP Deskjet 500, 17 years old and still working. I had 3 Canon in about 6 years, all in the bin now. Don't forget that generally, the more expensive is the printer, cheaper are the cartridges.

i almost always buy epson, because there linux driver website usualy has a prorietry driver

epson pays these people to maintain and write linux drivers for all their products.

http://avasys.jp/eng/linux_driver/

I know there multifunction (all in ones) printers work, as two of my neigbours have NX210 and NX215, one was the recomendation for the other, and both scanning and printing works.

I personaly prefer to have seperate devices, so i have the V330 scanner (works fine with epsons drivers under mageia 1, not tried mageia 2 yet) , and if I were choosing right now it would be either an S22 or the P50.

drivers for both are on the above website

projet ink set from NDink for the P50 is £15.99

projet ink set from NDink for the S22 is £15.99

http://www.nd-ink.co.uk/epson-stylus-s22-1513-c.asp

P50 is about £115 (dabs), and S22 is about £24

However I have not tested either of these so dont take it as a recomendation

"wintpe" thanks for that link. I have not been able to get my partners (all-in-one) multifunction printer working under linux yet so we will try these drivers...
