HP 2200d laserjet & HP plugin pop-up

HP 2200d laserjet & HP plugin pop-up

Postby Canuck » May 28th, '12, 21:25

I have my HP Laserjet working with a CUPS driver CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7 Simplified

Almost everytime I print, I receive a pop-up from HP telling me I need a Plug-in Fine, I go through the consenting to the terms and then to Install. At which time I receive
notice that the install FAILED Password lacking.

How can I turn this thing off or what do I do to install the HP needed plugin. Ignoring the pop-up enables the printer to print, but it is annoying to say the least, since I have tried to consent to have the plug-in installed.

What do I do to either install the plug-in OR stop the pop-up

FWIW, here's the link for the bug report about the plugin issue: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5395
Unortunately i don't know how to fix it, as i can't reproduce it without such a printer that requires a plugin.
Maybe you just need to close/kill that hp-setup thing which gives those messages?

I had an HP LaserJet 1000 doing something similar and I found a setting in cups that offered to load firmware to use the printer each time and it was fine after that. I must say that it was not the current cups software generation (Mandriva 2010.2) and it may not offer that setting now in cups used in Mageia. Do you use 'hp-setup' from the command line to set up the printer? That was the method I used and it had the firmware setting possible that way during download and set of of the driver for the printer. I will sound like an HP commercial perhaps but I have had four different HP printers in use with Linux over the last decade and all have worked well with the drivers provided by HP. (No, I don't work for them or have any connection to them except being their customer.)

cheers,

This is werid - I have 2 attached printers, a 2200D and a color laserjet cm2320 (over the LAN). I was able to install the 2200D with no problem - I think there was some plugin grumbling, but the printer installed in hp-setup and I can print and dipluex print. But, the CM2302 will not install no matter what I do. I have installed the plugin using hp-plugin, and received a message indicating the install was successful, but when I try to add the printer with hp-setup, it still fails with the error that the plugin was not successfully installed.

Does anyone know where hp-plugin installes these drivers so I could try to attach it manually rather than the automatic way that fails?

EDIT: this printer has been working just fine since Mageia 1 (and Mandriva before that), so I know this WAS a supported printer....
