[SOLVED] Mageia 9 printer issue

I may have the same problem. Running Mageia 9.A Brother MFC, so new that it only just being listed by CUPS. Getting messages on USB and Wireless, "Waiting for printer to become available." The troubleshooter from Linux Mint says that the computer is not broadcasting a list to the printer. It seems to be almost a standard bug in Windows 10, which I have installed, but rarely use. Using USB, nothing would print except when rebooting. That somehow opened a "window" for a couple of seconds, allowing 2 or 3 pages to be printed.

Then why not try the workaround as mentioned previously ?

I did delete the printer once. Even when on Wi-Fi, CUPS shows it as connected to usb0. I mean need to install it independently of CUPS.

I installed the Mopria app on my phone. It says that the printer is connected via Net Direct. IP addresses are given for that connection and ordinary networking., I deleted all printers then added the one CUPS suggested, but neither connection works. From the Mopria app, I can print by Net Direct, the one on Port 9100)

You can change the connection method on an installed printer: In MCC > hardware > Set up the printers... :
Right click the printer, select "Properties...", top chapter "Settings": "Device URI"
What is yours set to?
My network printers use the form: socket://192.168.68.205:9100
(Adjust /192.168.68.205 to your printers network address)

It might help if you would show a screenshot from either CUPS or from system-config-printer
or the output as root from
Code: Select all
lpinfo -v
or
Code: Select all
lpstat -t

My printer is on 192.168.1i8.1:9100 That is the address that Mopria recommends, but it reports that the printer is unreachabl3. The printer display reports that it is on 192.168.0.102.

Solved? Not down here.

Just a request that when solutions are found instead of editing your "I have a problem" post to say its solved, add a new post with solutions, and then add SOLVED to title.

Otherwise re-reading and re-reading the same posts looking for edits is needed.

I love a chronological order.

Good point, I've split this into a new thread. Wanted to wait before OP added some actual details if it might be the exact same problem, but doesn't seem likely at all.

[SOLVED AGAIN] I posted to a thread already marked as solved.
From a number of other indicators, I reasoned that my installation of Mga 9 was misconfigured.
I reinstalled the OS from scratch, and the printer now works as it should. It is on USB, but I will leave it that way. "If it works, don't fix it."
