[SOLVED] Mageia 9 - HP ENVY 5660 - Printer Issue

My HP ENVY 5660 multi function printer was running fine under Mageia 8.
I executed an online upgrade to Mageia 9. Now it does not work.

I found the Mageia forum topic "[SOLVED] Mageia 9 printer issue" at https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=15041 .
I deleted and reinstalled the printer device as described several times, working to make sure the printer was on at the time of installation. It was found and reinstalled several times but continued to fail.

You are fantastic. I have run Mageia through name changes, etc. since the late 1990's.
Any advice is appreciated.

How is it connected to the computer?

Have you tried an alternative connection method? (wifi/USB)

Do you get similar messages in the log as described in the bug?

Then the log looked like it was trying to rebuild the dependencies for HP Printer device support, but failing. When it asked for root permissions, I told it to skip the rebuild. I was not convinced it was not trying to go backwards to Mageia 7.

Why do you ignore the request from doktor5000? You don't wanna get help? Do what he asked you and run the command as root and post the complete terminal output here!

doktor5000 always has great advice, offered in a professional and courteous manner. I thought he was asking for diagnostic output logs. If he had warned me that it would start compiling code outside of the Mageia build and release process, I would have gone ahead and allowed it to happen.

Several Mageia releases ago my printer was not supported by Mageia's HPLIP and HP Device Manager. I downloaded the most recent (at the time) HPLIP source code and built it on my system. I was concerned that artifacts of that build was confusing Mageia's Software Management.

The Mageia 9 release notes say nothing about "printer".

I will carefully consider my next steps. I thank everyone for their advice.

That is exactly what hp-doctor provides.

If he had warned me that it would start compiling code outside of the Mageia build and release process, I would have gone ahead and allowed it to happen.

It does not compile anything, it just check build-time (which can mostly be ignored) and runtime depencies (which are covered by the hplip package dependencies).

Best just attach your hp-doctor.log here.

I deleted my printer from my system using the graphical Mageia Control.
I deleted HPLIP from my system using the graphical Mageia Control.
I rebooted the system.
I installed HPLIP to my system using the graphical Mageia Control.
I added the printer to my system using the graphical Mageia Control.
The printer still fails.
I ran

I will try to attach the entire hp-doctor.log file.

Well, the printer itself is present.

Apart from that, the release notes are not that important. You may want to look at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_9_Errata#Printing though.
Check if you have the package ipp-usb installed, if so remove it and try again. Also, when adding it back I'd do it with hp-setup and not via Mageia control center.

ipp-usb was installed. I deleted it. I successfully printed a test page without resetting anything else. The scanner also works.
