Unwanted HP button [SOLVED]

Unwanted HP button [SOLVED]

Postby chriskross » Jun 24th, '21, 09:40

Have just updated to 5.10.45-desktop-2.mga8 and now I have a button alongside the network button which says HP. This a) does nothing (can't even right-click) and b) is totally unnecessary and unwanted. I don't have an HP printer, and never will. I have tried removing a couple of HP packages but others are tied in to the basic printer tasks (why do you do this, Mageia? If I need something specific to a printer I will install it - it shouldn't be a permanent fixture if it's not needed). This has only happened with this update. I've managed to get rid of the button previously, even if the packages still remain.

You don't mention which DE you use.

in plasma:
right click the Mageia cauldron (application launcher menu)
choose "Edit panel"
hover the mouse pointer over the system tray. a popup menu should appear title "system tray"
choose "settings" option
a new window will appear "System Tray Settings"
Choose "Entries"
Change "HP-systray" to "always hidden"
"apply" and it should vanish - I dont know if its forever though

I dont care about it, I just ignore it.

Thanks. I'd got as far as Edit Panel but couldn't see how to proceed.

Now hidden. Still irritates the hell out of me!

Go to Application Menu->Tools->System Tools->HP Device Manager
In HP Device Manager choose: Configure->Preferences......
Go to tab "System Tray Icon" and change "System tray icon visibility" to "Always hide", and hit OK.

Thank you, but I don't have a HP Device Manager (maybe one of the things I uninstalled). But benmc's solution worked as promised.

the HP-systray is a dependency drawn in when you add the system-config-printer.rpm

if it really (really really) bugs you, open a bug report and request that the dependency be dropped ;)
