I have a Brother printer MFC-J430W when I use libreoffice wirter for example only shows generic printer shows up Please how do i Install and make the printer working ?? at the moment it set to work in wifi.

Have you set up / configured the printer via Mageia Control Centre => hardware => configure printer?

Ok but how do you set up please in the configure printer ?

Please has you in see in the picture that it only says generic printer my printer brother mfc-j430w does not show up in order to have working and printing how do you set up it up in the configure printer section ??

1/ press the "add" button
2/in the "Select devices" window, choose "network printer" - has a little tirangle beside it
3/ choos the sub headding "Find network printer"
4/ in the window "Host" put in the printer URL - you need to get this from the printer., then => " find"
5/ it will scan for the printer, and if found will give a list of available printers. choose the "IPP (printer URL)" then => " forward"
6/ choose the make or the highlighted (recommended) , then => "forward"
7/ choose the driver or the highlighted (recommended), then =>"forward"
8/ enter the location and then => "apply" you will be asked to print a test page

Please where in the printer do I get the printer url ?

even if I choose reccomended at the end of the process il always generic printer even if the ipp 192.168.001.100

Also because un the database of the drivers for Brother Mfc j430w when It searches for drivers that driver Is not in the database and at the point It Always chooses generic text Only (reccomended )obviuosly It does not print or work at all.

Download the following drivers from the Brother support homepage:

Please take note where you saved the drivers (as example to /home/yourusername/Downloads/), because you will need this path later.

Open a teminal and do the following commands:

It will ask for your ROOT passwort. Put it in and hit Enter

cd /home/yourusername/Downloads/

Here you have to put the path where you saved the two drivers!!!!

rpm -ihv --nodeps mfcj430wlpr-3.0.1-1.i386.rpm

It will install

rpm -ihv --nodeps mfcj430wcupswrapper-3.0.0-1.i386.rpm

It will install

Open Mageia Software Center and go to printers. Your MFC-J430W shows up. Click on it and configure your printer (connection type USB or IP adress and so on and on...)

sturmvogel Thank you so much you are the number one working 100% one last thing to have it scanning to what else is need I have installed simple scan installed ? I tried scanning but nothing.

Download the scanner driver and do the above steps accordingly.

I did downlaod the driver and i followed the instructions but the teminal command not found

here the picture is clearer but it says no file or directory but i did download the file.

rpm -ihv --nodeps (scanner-drivername)
