I've just bought a HP Office jet pro 'all in one'.9 and I want to install it on Mageia 7.1 will I be successful? Does Mageia contain a driver?

The driver is there but it didn't find it, The wizard says serial. The only way I got it to print was as a Network printer.

The basic answer is yes: It will work great.

Whether mageia can auto detect it is another thing: But we will be able to walk you through that if not.

I was waiting on a 3m USB2 to USB2 shielded cable, but as it doesn't auto-detect I'll need instructions

have you tried to configure the printer from Mageia Control Centre?

Yes, I've tried that, but as my desktop is in bits I'm working on that.

I've got that exact printer model too,. I got it to work on M8 and then only as a network printer. Like all printer manufacturers, they make money selling ink and then sell the printer at cost. Now all printers an Internet-enabled and disable it for good if you put compatible cartridges in it, that was found to be illegal by the US Congress although they were fine if it worked again with branded cartridges.

I have an HP 1102W printer that cannot be set up using the MCC. I can only set up the printer using the CLI tool hp-setup. If the MCC does not work for your printer, try the CLI tool.

To use it, bring up a console, change to root and enter:

Code: Select all
# hp-setup -i

The "-i" switch makes it intereactive. hp-setup should search for and discover your printer. If it does find the printer, answer the questions and it will install the printer.

If hp-setup cannot find your printer, add the IP address of the printer to the command, e.g.

Code: Select all
# hp-setup -i 192.168.1.252
