network printer can't configure it

network printer can't configure it

Postby adhefe » Apr 5th, '19, 20:52

I've configured a network hp printer in a Mageia 6 connected to rooter via cable.

I've tried to do the same in Mageia 7 beta2 wireless connected the same way

MCC => Hardware => ....=> find network printer

and I was asked for a password for user root, group MYGROUP.
root password didn't work.

Couldn't configure this printer in MGA 7.

I've changed machine name recently from localhost to another name via hostnamectl command. However, in MCC's printer configuration window is written
"Connected to localhost".

Could it be that a problem with the name of the server is the cause?

Thanks

With tips from the portuguese forum, I've configured firewall to allow CUPS and SLP & zeroconf. Now the printer is seen and I can configure via MCC. However, I get "device communication error".

Activating HP doctor at HP device manager, I get:

Code: Select all
Checking for Deprecated items....
error: This distro (i.e mandriva  7) is either deprecated or not yet supported.
The diagnosis is limited on unsupported platforms. Do you want to continue?(y=yes*, n=no):

If I say yes, a lot of missing files are listed. There are many really. The following caught my attention:

Code: Select all
error: cups          CUPS - Common Unix Printing System                           REQUIRED        1.1             -               INCOMPAT   'CUPS may not be installed or not running'

well, I have cups 2.2 installed!

Doktor5000,

I'm attaching a file with the output till it asks if I want it to correct for missing packages, etc. I'm not trusting it really knows what it is doing so I interrupted hp-doctor.

Doktor5000,

In the attached file I've sent, there is a message saying (not in english) that the printer is inactive. I've turned the printer on and off and this message is still there.

I've filed a bug on this (bug 24629). Following suggestion from Kristoffer Grundström, I've tested with MGA 7 beta2 Live iso and it worked fine. Thus, I guess there is something wrong with updates in MGA 7 beta 2!

Following Kristoffer Grundström, I've removed the printer from HP-device-manager. The Hp-device-manager doesn't see the network printer and then I could not reconfigure it there. On the other hand, MCC sees the network printer and did configure it without problems although the "print test page" is not available. I've tested the printer with libreoffice and it worked fine.

To me, it is the HP-device-manager the culprit, isn't it?
