epson XP-442 scanner driver

anyone had any luck with the scanner on the epson XP-442 or any of its brothers or sisters, the driver that epson supplies covers a number of similar devices.

yesterday i re-installed a mageia 5 system that i had managed to get working with the suse version of the driver with a bit of library version links, around /usr/lib64/libboost*
but alas on mageia 6 while i can get ldd to match up all the libraries in a similar way (for imagescan) , the utsushi library has a symbol mismatch , and after trying many of the offered rpm based versions epson supply, found they all have this issue with mageia 6.
the printer drivers work no problem.
if anyone else has found a solution to this please share.
