Setting up the HP MFP M180n printer/scanner

Has anyone successfully installed the HP Laserjet Pro M180n Printer/scanner. I did have an earlier thread on this model, as to whether this was Linux compatible. The general opinion was that it was. I now have one, and installing it seems something of a problem, both in Mga 5 and 6. Whilst I have got the thing to print, in Mga5, I can hardly admit that it was either a straightforward process, or that I've got it right. Scanning, however has been a total loss. The options for scanning point me to a procedure that does not appear to exist.
Before getting down to the detail of what did and did not work, it might be of help, if someone had actually got the thing working in a rational sense.

If nobody did confirm this in the previous thread, do you think you will get different results now ?

On the last thread on this matter, I was eliciting whether this printer was Linux compatible. The general opinion was, that it was. On this one, I'm asking if anyone has successfully installed one, and how. An entirely different thing.

And because in the previous thread nobody mentioned whether they have this model in use, you suspect somebody will post here? Good Luck.

At my time of life, I assume nothing, but a forum is a place to ask quetions, in the hope that someone can give a practical answer. I await such an event.

HP themselves say "Chances are, your Linux computer already has the software it needs"

Click Linux here:

So if it their tip do not work, bug HP support about to make it or else it is false advertising...

Vuescan also makes a bold statement
