[SOLVED] Brother MFC-5440CN No Scan

[SOLVED] Brother MFC-5440CN No Scan

Postby saptech » Sep 23rd, '11, 04:27

I did get the printer part to work, which I need the most. I didn't try getting the scanner to work at the time of installing Mga but now when I installed the drivers from Brother's site, the scanner is not being detected.

The scanner part did work under Mandriva 2010.2.

Running 'scanimage -L' is not showing the scanner. I'm not home at the moment so can't paste any messages.

Could there be some scan files or something missing from Mga side? For the printer, I did have to install a2ps in order for the printer to print.

Thnx.

In my case: "For the scanner I had to add a section to /etc/udev/rules.d/libsane... as per the instructions on Brother's website."

I did add that also. It seems as if the scanner part is not being picked up by the OS and/or xsane or kscanlite. I'll keep chipping away at it, hopefully will figure it out.

I also have LMDE installed but haven't setup the scanner part, so Friday I'll reboot and see if it works under it.

Thnx.

For the scanner part you only need to install brscan from Brother, which makes the scanner work.
Check http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bs ... d_scn.html
You need brscan and the scan-key-tool, only install both packages, change the udev rule
to be able to scan as user, and you should be ready to scan.
For the udev rule, check http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bs ... html#m2010

I would like to apologize, I had originally downloaded the wrong scan files from Brother's site. I got the right ones installed and now the scanner is working.

Thanks to all for your help.
