[SOLVED]How to scann slides on a HP photosmart 3210

Postby Lebarhon » Nov 20th, '12, 23:54

Hello,

Does anybody knows how to scan slides with a HP photosmart 3210 and xsane. Some people on the internet says it is impossible, others says yes, it is possible.
The HP photosmart says "No digitalization options, RTFM" (in other terms  ). Which so called manual doesn't deal with slides scanning!
Xsane says nothing, it only doesn't take into account the "Slide" selection and go on with light for opaque documents instead of switch on the light for transparent documents. The preview shows me an image of the slides support!
The HP photosmart 3210 works fine for printing, scanning opaque documents and also for scanning slides in the stand alone mode. But this mode allows a very few options.
Thanks a lot for your ideas.

Thanks a lot Doktor for your help.
The third link is exactly my problem. It says to change the default "Flatbed" in the Scan Source drop down list by "Transparency". Unfortunately, in my case I haven't Transparency, only Flatbed and nothing else. Now the problem is to know why Xsane shipped with Mageia hasn't this option available and how to fetch it ?
Must I file a bug ?

Well, according to http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/mo ... eries.html
seems no additional plugin is needed. And googling around seems it is not possible with this scanner to select
anything else than "Flatbed" under linux.

Only workaround seems to be scanning the slides without computer directly to memory card plugged into the printer.

HP says HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-one Printer is full supported by HPLIP, may be, but nevertheless, HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-one Printer isn't full compatible with Linux, HP isn't clear and Windows is still essential for a long time.

The workaround you suggest is a good idea and works pretty well.
Thanks again

Well, fully supported by hplip, yes. But it says nowhere that it is fully compatible with Sane, which is used to access the scanner part.
