LaserJet 6l has stopped printing

I've run into an odd printing problem recently.

Running Mageia 1, but I've downloaded and installed from source hplip 3.11.12.

This has been working well for a couple of months, but earlier this week, Printing has been hanging. The print icon will appear in the gnome toolbar,but won't go any further.

May i ask why you downloaded and installed it manually?

I had installed it when we were working on bug 3024, the margins being messed up with hplip 3.11.7. You had an update in cauldron, but with my internet connection, testing cauldron isn't an available option, so I downloaded the source for hplip and ghostscript and repackaged on my system for 1.

Please post the content of /etc/cups/printers.conf. Also from your description i get that it worked fine with 3.11.12 and this week that stopped?

It has printed after the flash player update. The stuff from today was an attempt to build the newer version of cups from cauldron, but there's one dev file missing under mageia 1.

The system has been working with 3.11.12, until this week. I am seeing the mirror image issue with envelopes under LibreOffice, but I think that's probably more a LibO issue than a printing issue at this point.

Otherwise after the flashplayer update i see no other packages that could have such an impact, on a short look. One more thing, the printer is connected via parallel port? How long after the last kernel update did you reboot? Immediately or did you leave the system running for some time? Only other thing you can experiment with would be error policy from cups, which is currently set to stop the printer in case of errors.

Usually when I have kernel updates-along with others-I'll check to make sure I've got all the updates installed before rebooting, but it's not much more than download time between installing a new kernel and booting to it.

So far, I've tried setting the cups error policy to retry current job set from MCC, but still no difference.

Interestingly, I CAN print a test page from MCC-could that be relevant?

Following a hunch, I checked with one of the gutenprint drivers for the printer and that worked. I then removed/reinstalled hpip (3.11.12) and things seem to be working properly again.

I think this same issue is happening with my printer too. I'm using windows operating system. Once I decided to throw out this printer and buy a new one but then found this forum and thought may be anyone can help me out (optimistic). Can you please tell me what should I do now? Should i install that application manually or have any alternative? I'm just confused. Please help me. Thanks

Mind to give any details which would be useful, for example which printer you are talking about and how it wouldbe connected you your computer, via USB or parallel port?
Also what's actually wrong with the printer, what do you mean by you threw it out, and which application/alternative are you referring to?
