Hello,

I need to play a movie encoded in the new HEVC/H.265 format.
I normally use VLC but it doesn't have any decoder for it. I see that for other distributions you can get a vlc-plugin-libde265 package for VLC, and there is also a lebde265 gstreamer package. But I am unable to find anything for Mageia (I'm on 4.1).

Is it possible to get something that can play HEVC for Mageia?
Maybe someone with Mageia 5 can download a HEVC file and see if VLC or something can play it? You can get a 5 MB test file here http://www.h265files.com/

I tried the first 'Austrian Alps Time-lapse' and it runs here without any problem.

Do you have the tainted version of VLC installed. Please check the output of 'rpm -qa | grep vlc'. Here is mine:

if you don't have the versions with the *.tainted then you should enable the tainted repos. Please see here: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Install_medi ... 832_bit.29

Unfortunately there is no such dedicated plugin for Mageia yet, but that would only be required for encoding h.265 / HEVC.
But the h265 videos you linked to play fine in vlc under Mageia 5 (both audio and video) as Latte mentioned

Yes I do have the tainted stuff enabled and the tainted VLC. But it seems like Mageia 4 can only get VLC 2.1.6, while Mageia 5 have 2.2.1.
Is there no way to upgrade VLC...? I don't have the option to upgrade Mageia anymore either, I dismissed it when I first got it... Even though I checked off "check new mageia version".
