each time i try too install the system i get a black screen.my card is Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset GEM 20100330

can you tell us a bit more?
Which version of mageia do you use to install? Is it the DVD or the dual-arch CD?
It is very difficult to help you if you don't give us more informations.

i am using beta1 .everting installs fine.but when i start the system i get a dark schreen the backlight is not coming on a thank at is the kernel

Hm, but I still don't know which version of the Beta1 you're using.

The dual-arch CD might not have the needed drivers for your graphics card.
In this case, the DVD would be better. Do you pass any special parameters,
when you try to boot the system with the CD/DVD?

You can update your system through "Software Management" in Mageia Control Centre.
Of course it is necessary to have the repositories added for this, which also can be done in that same place.

that black screen issue it is your laptop screen light is turned to off it's kernel bug was causing that problem if you have another livecd you can get access to your hard disk you need to add line to config file /etc/rc.local and line it is setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00 this command is turning lcd screen light on i can't say that is working with your problem but it solved my problem what i have had with mageia and mandriva 2011 rc1 and every distro what using kernel 2.6.38 now i am happy to use mageia and this is 100x better than mandriva and good work guys that you have made good os
