[SOLVED] I screwed up my dbus..

I accidentally downloaded a lot of updates from Cauldron because I added it as a repository. So I spent a few hours reverting all of the mga4 packages to mga3 and now DBus dosnt start.. There was a version mismatch where i got the "could not start D-Bus. could you start it?".. so I fixed the version mismatch and now it wont start because it says "no configuration file specified" when i run dbus-daemon.. Here are the dbus related things I have installed, hopefully someone can help me get my desktop back. I want to go back to my default Dbus/X11 setup and configuration. Using Mageia3. Thanks.

Forgot to mention.. when I run "qdbus" it says it cannot connect or something.. then i run "dbus-daemon" and it says the "no configuration file specified" thing.

I looked at my "Xorg.0.log" and everything seems to be okay, except near the bottom it says "NOUVEAU(1): NVLeaveVT is called."... here is my Xorg.0.log file:

Did you reboot in between?

Please post the output of the following commands as root

Code: Select all
urpmq --list-media active
urpmq --list-url
rpm -qa | grep mga4
env | grep dbus
ps -ef | grep dbus
dbus-launch

Apart from that, the X issues are probably not directly related to your dbus problem, maybe more to the "upgrade".

Thanks doktor5000, you're always a champion.. I did "rpm -qa | grep mga4" during the time I was reverting back to mga3 stuff... I totally neglected to look at my "kdm.log" file in which I found the same version compatibility errors as before (thought I had fixed it already):
Code: Select all
Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x40805) with this library (version 0x40804)
KCrash: Application 'kdmgreet' crashing...
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib64/kde4/libexec/drkonqi directly
Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x40805) with this library (version 0x40804)
Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.

I was using 4.8.5 for dbus and qt since I have been doing my software updates, and updating a couple of things from 4.8.4 to 4.8.5 fixed the obvious errors before.. So I did the command "rpm -qa | grep 4\.8\.4" and found a few loose ends:
Code: Select all
qt4-qtdbus-4.8.4-7.mga3
lib64qtdbus4-4.8.4-7.mga3
lib64qtcore4-4.8.4-7.mga3
qt4-common-4.8.4-7.mga3

Turns out all of the packages I reverted from mga4 to mga3 were from the "release" folder instead of the "update" folder where I should have been getting them. I downloaded the 4.8.5's from the "updates" folder from a LiveUSB and then removed the 4.8.4's (rpm -e --nodeps [qt and dbus 4.8.4 stuff]) and now I have my desktop back! :D back but nothing works still..

So I opened a Konsole and did the command "drakrpm-edit-media" and unchecked the Cauldron sources.. Then I ran "drakrpm-update" and hopefully i'll have my system back to normal after I "reboot for glibc and kernel-desktop"... wish me luck.

Reboot worked... can still access my system and desktop. Konqueror is the only browser that works and Mageia Control Center doesn't launch at all.. would it help if I listed rpm's I downloaded from the "release" folder and updated manually from mga4?

drakrpm-update says there are no updates available.. but I'm sure there are some "release" RPMs that I need to replace with the "update" ones.. or maybe I have different versions of the same RPMs somewhere..

Ok, mageia control center wasn't launching because I didn't have webkit installed properly.. it will only launch through command line now "drakconf" but gives these messages:

Code: Select all
"/usr/bin/drakmenustyle" is not executable [Menus] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 823.
"/usr/sbin/drakbackup" is not executable [Backups] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 823.
"/usr/sbin/drakvirt" is not executable [Virtualization] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 823.
"/usr/sbin/tomoyo-gui" is not executable [Tomoyo Policy] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 823.

Ok drakconf was having these errors because I still had the "gvfs" stuff from mga4 installed.. everything is working correctly again. Thank you for the support :)

Not really, those messages are only informational and simply tell you that some optional functionality is missing.

Was it because I didn't have the correct webkits installed? Before I reinstalled the correct webkit stuff, only MCC and Chromium weren't working.

No.
