NVidia Hybrid Chipset - Black screen after install

NVidia Hybrid Chipset - Black screen after install

Postby jesseb » May 22nd, '13, 06:00

Hello,

Recently, i wanted to test Mageia 3 as it is the 1st distro to ship with the NVidia drivers (the ones that work with NVidia Optimis).

Unfortunately, when I install and reboot for the 1st time, i get a black screen.

While searching the internet, I came across this on the Errata:

NVidia hybrid chipset
black screen after install or during live

The issue is that the 2nd chipset is primary and thus you cannot see anything, you can either attach external monitor, or with live add a "xdriver=vesa" to kernel append parameters; with installer, just adjust the xorg.conf manually to use only one monitor (the correct one)

Unfortunately, I'm a bit of a linux novice and I am unsure how to add to the kernal append parameters, or adjust the xorg.conf. I have no ports to plug a monitor into (its a laptop). Can someone give me a hand? Can any of these solutions be conducted during the install?

Thanks!

You don't even have a VGA output on the laptop, are you sure?

For the kernel options, at the bootloader, take a look at http://doc.mageia.org/installer/3/en/co ... aller.html
Press F6, select Default and append the kernel option that is suggested, in your case xdriver=vesa
