Ati/Intel driver problems

Postby wsandrea » Dec 18th, '12, 04:02

Hello everyone. I have just installed Mageia 2 on my HP dv6-6178sl laptop with Intel + Ati HD 6770m
I have two main problems: first of all, when I try to install proprietary drivers following https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Setup_the_graphical_server this, after the reboot the system hangs on a screen where I can read the startup of some services. I had to CTRL+ALT+F2 and remove xorg.conf in order to get my desktop back, and then reconfiguring the graphical server making it use the Intel card.

My second problem is related to brightness: i have two buttons on the laptop to control brightness settings. When I press them I can see the tooltip on the screen but no actual brigthness modification is made. What can I do?

I managed to install the proprietary drivers by downloading them from AMD's website. They work but if I switch to the integrated Intel card my pc hangs when loading X.Org at next reboot and I need to use a root console (CTRL+ALT+F2) and run "aticonfig --initial -f" to revert back to normal. Also the backlight switch is not working either. I tried to get infos from the /sys folder and all that I get is:

Code: Select all
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.0/backlight
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-LVDS-1/intel_backlight
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/backlight
/sys/class/backlight
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight
/sys/module/video/parameters/use_bios_initial_backlight

"cat" states that everything is a folder, except for the last string, which gives my an "Y" output; so I can't echo anything.

Please help me out!
