I am running KDE in Mageia 2 and the Panel is transparent making it hard to see any thing displayed on it due to my desktop background. Is there an easy way to change this?

I guess you use the panel autohide like me :)

the only one way I found to solve this problem is change the panel:
systemsettings->workspace apparence->desktop theme
tab details
for Panel Background I choose "Aya Panel Background"

Yes Tom I use the panel autohide.
There was no "Aya Panel Background" I presume I would have to install "plasma-desktoptheme-aya" is that correct?

I don't know why or when I have done it,
but yes, it is installed on my laptop.

I thought it was in the default installation

I'm glad the time I spent in that search has been useful to you too 8-)

Now I'd like to help some other person,
so I have just opened a bug report for this usability issue:

PS: in this forum [SOLVED] is a subj prefix and with no space in it ;)
