nvidia, kwin and desktop effects

Hi,
I have a old computer, but it worked fine until recently.
It's a Athlon 64 3000 + a nvidia 6200 and 1GB of memory.
My mageia is up to date.
When I try to use KDE with the desktop effet enabled, I got some stranges issues :
With proprietary driver :
In open gl mode, I got no background, half of the windows are black, and I have no plasmoids.
Processor is not really happy when desktop effects are enabled
When they are disabled, no issues, everything seems to work.
In xrender mode, I get everything back, but no cube desktop.
With free drivers, performances sucks and I have no cube.
Do you have these issues ?
On an ubuntu forum, they seems to get the same problem because of issues between nvidia driver and kernel 2.6.38. I think we use this one too.
Some people said we could use another backend than xrender or opengl for Kwin. Raster... Do you know how to install it ?
Thanks
Pierre

Shortly available nvidia-current-270.41.19-1.mga1 in nonfree/release.
Maybe worth waiting for and try.

thanks.
I tested kwinhacknvidia rpm, same issue.
I tested also compiz, and this time, KDE is white(in place of black with Kwin).
Will test with the next release.

FWIW, I wouldn't enable desktop effects in KDE for now:

I got it this evening and I have still the issue.
It's a lot of frustration to see the ecafe working, and my main computer with a "good" video card without effects.

no...
I can remove my .kde folder to test with a new configuration if you want...
I have open gl working nicely(I played eduke32 on this computer yesterday without problem), it's just KDE desktop effects...

Please test the nvidia-current-275.09.07 that should land in the nonfree/updates_testing repos soon.

Usually new packages land in Cauldron before being pushed to stable releases, so yes it's in Cauldron since yesterday.

Tested, works.
Cauldron 64-bit, desktop effects activated, no problems.
I am used to take such things for granted!

Same here all windows are wobbling again;-)
And resizing is working as expected.
My first time of a live experience installing from cooker/cauldron.

I installed the driver this morning.
I saw no changes after rboot.
Desktop effect still work on xrender , but not in opengl mode.
I tried to reset default setting, without effect.

A shot in the dark, try enabling direct rendering in the "Advanced" tab in systemsettings -> Desktop Effects.

finally, my cpu doesn't like that, it seems to use much more of it(25-80%) with open gl

(FWIW, until I get an i7 CPU, 16/24GB of RAM, I'll just pass the whole idea of using desktop effects if I want to use my box to do other stuff other than enjoying a transparent-panel-with-blur-effect :)).
BTW, I'd try disabling some effects (especially the Blur one), experiment until it stabilises, or just use xrender :)

that's very strange because I have 2 computers.
One laptop with a intal GMA 4500 graphic card and absolutly no problem with desktop effect
One AMD 3000+ with a nvidia geforce 6200 that can't use them... with open gl.
I thought xrender was the one that uses th most the CPU and that open GL was the GPU one...
There any no way to improve it ? nvidia geforce 6200 shhould be able to manage simple effect like that.
