Password protected LibreOffice spreadsheets

Password protected LibreOffice spreadsheets

Postby MikeFinch » Apr 12th, '12, 07:45

LibreOffice 3.4.4 that came with the Mageia 1 disc would not open a password-protected spreadsheet. So upgraded LO to version 3.5. Seemed to work at first but then again later refused to do so!

Currently using Mandriva 2010.2 to operate my spreadsheet without any trouble.

This problem obviously needs fixing.

The error message is something like "incorrect password" - which is definitely an incorrect statement! :(

What filetype is that spreadsheet, and created with which program? Which program in which version are you using on Mandriva to open this?

The filetype is ods and created with LibreOffice.

Using LO 3.5.1.2 in Mandriva. I suspect LO is also[?] faulty because it is saying on opening that the spreadsheet in question needs recovering and then says recovery failed and then goes on to behave normally........!!.

Maybe the system that deals with password protection needs more work both on Mageia's side AND LibreOffice's[???]. I'm not qualified to say one way or the other since it is beyond my capabilities.

Obviously password protection needs to work properly at all times.

NOTE YOU WELL Firefox was misbehaving in Mageia so I cleaned it out completely (including .mozilla) and reinstalled. After discovering that a .json backup of the bookmarks was required to import bookmarks [just bookmarks.html wouldn't work] I then had a normal Firefox operating. I ALSO DISCOVERED AFTER A FEW MINUTES THAT MY PASSWORD-PROTECTED SPREADSHEET LOADED NORMALLY.

IF THIS KEEPS UP THEN EVERYTHING IS BACK TO NORMAL. Apologies for wasting your time!!

This is unrelated, LibreOffice (as most other office programs) tries to recover files which were open in a previous session, but were not saved since or the office program has exited abnormally.

Hint: If you do an upgrade, at least for Mandriva -> Mageia, best start of with a new, freshly created user account and then start to migrate your old settings.
You could also check if the libreoffice/firefox problems persist when logging in as either xguest or a new user.
