Problem exiting X

I'm running Mageia 1 and I boot my system to command line rather than X, and start X with the startx KDE4 command. When I later end the X session by selecting the logout command the screen goes into sleep mode. One of the few ways I've found to recover from that situation is to reboot (ALT+SysRq+R,S,E,I,U,B in sequence). A workaround is to after having confirmed logout to quickly press CTRL+ALT+F1. It also makes it problematic to configure X with XFdrake as the screen goes into sleep mode when I've verified that the configuration works. I get these messages repeated many times in the /var/log/messages from the time of booting:
If that's of any help. The number of modules are increasing for eah time the message is displayed, this is the last but one. The last one stops before the '[cut here]' line
