Monitors not sleeping

Monitors not sleeping

Postby rfemali » Jul 28th, '25, 03:51

I am running Mageia 9. I have a mother board (Asus Proart Z790) that only had a single HDMI out so I am utilizing a USB-C port for my second display. When the monitors try to go to sleep, I will see the no input message then both go black but trun right back on. I have not been able to get them to stay asleep and any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there, your description seems to miss a few details.
So you have your first screen attached via HDMI, and your second screen via USB-C?
Also do you use integrated graphics or a dedicated graphic card ?

What's the event when the monitors should go to sleep? After like 15 minutes of idle time, or when your computer goes to standby/hibernate or when ?
Also this does happen for both monitors ?

Please post the output of

Code: Select all
xset -q
lspcidrake -v | grep VGA

Also have a look at

doktor5000,

Yes, one monitor on an HDMI cable and the other on USB-C to HDMI cable.

I checked the link and turning off my mouse had no affect and I do not have an auto setting on my monitors for input. Additionally, this is all the same hardware I had on my last mobo and this issue was not present.

When the monitors try to sleep they will go blue and say no input signal, then go black, and then after a couple seconds they will turn back on.

I am using the integrated graphics.

The output of xset -q was:

Code: Select all
Keyboard Control:
auto repeat:  on    key click percent:  0    LED mask:  00000002

One bit is still missing:

Also from the link, the main point was to try to disable DPMS (xset dpms force off) and also
to configure the input source for the monitors to what their actual input should be, not to automatic.

The event is idle 10 minutes.

I tried xset dpms force off and it reacted the same as when the monitors should sleep after 10 minutes.

What desktop environment do you use? Plasma, GNOME, ... ?

Would probably be helpful if you leave
Code: Select all
journalctl -af
running in a terminal as root,
then wait 10 minutes until monitors turn off and back on, and then copy&paste the whole journal output here so we can maybe see if there are any other powersaving events or so.

There do not seem to be any relevant events there. Are you sure you ran that as root ?

You can also check https://community.kde.org/Solid/Project ... nformation to get debugging information on kscreen, as that should be the backend process that handles the monitor on/off events or at least it should register them.

Also simply leaving
Code: Select all
kscreen-console monitor
running as regular user instead of journalctl should also show those events. You can exit it via Ctrl+C if you don't need it any more.
Although for that you may need to enable debug messages via kdebugdialog5
