Everything is fine when I start up the laptop until after the login. Once I login it will show the normal screen and then keep flashing to what looks like bricks then back to a normal screen and back to the bricks then when finally gets to where I'm logged in and have a normal screen.

You eventually get to a normal working desktop - it is just taking longer time / and have graphical issues some seconds after login?
Which desktop? ( Plasma / Gnome / xfce, ...? )

Once I get the desktop it works okay. Just between login and desktop that it's happening.
I'm using Xfce for the desktop.

Maybe you experience
bug 24134?
If you think so, please add in that bug you too see this.
Also read through, and maybe try if some suggested thing work.

I was looking at what was written in the bug. Mine is a top half blue section that looks like a brick wall with lower half black after I put in the password. This happens until I get to the workspace. Once there all is well. I didn't see those lines or pixels that were metioned throughout the posts.

I believe the graphic representation of the problem is a result of wrong or nonexisting initialisation of graphics memory, the visual appearance being dependant on both the hardware and system.
PS please adjust the subject of first post in this thread so something better descriptive, like "Graphic artefacts after login to Xfce" DS

Then it's something to live with? If so then ok. Thought maybe some kind of adjustments were needed.

Yes just let it be... I did not bother myself.
Also seen on at least one other distro.
You may try remove and add the xfce panel per one of the last bug comments, or switch to LightDM log in manager; was better for some.

Ok. Thanks. I'll just let it ride.
