Is my nvidia out of order or is mageia-prime broken? SOLVED

I've been using mageia-prime successfully for months. Recently, in an attempt to recover the signal in a second monitor, I've tried mageia-prime-uninstall. Now mageia-prime-install causes the system to freeze, no matter if I try this in recovery mode or in regular X session, regardless of plugging the second monitor or not.
This is a hybrid notebook with intel video card set up with XFdrake. The Nvidia card is a GTX 1050 Ti. Nvidia driver (mageia packages) 460.84 is installed.

I suspect of malfunction in the nvidia card. Is there any test I could carry on to verify the nvidia card?

Many thanks

I've successfully run mageia-prime-install and can't say why it did not work before. All I can say is that I was using a HDMI to VGA adapter and now I'm using a HDMI cable.
Having nvidia drivers loaded, I could use the second monitor. It seems hdmi is attached to the nvidia card and cannot be used without mageia-prime.
I guess my problems begun because of a malfunction in the hdmi2vga adapter.

Thanks
