Yesterday I upgraded MGA6 to MGA7 per the online applett. Some 2800 RPMs were installed smoothly, but halfway I saw a hickup: the installer was not very happy with my graphics card (NVIDIA Geforce 6200, which used driver 304.137 under MGA6, but that driver is not included in the RPMs for MGA7). Apparently the MGA7 installer found a way around the problem by installing the Nouveau driver.
In the end the system came up, but the SDDM greeter popup was not blue but black, and blinking as mad every second. The fields for username and login are hardly visible and the whole screen looks a bit messy, with parts of the log lines still visible in the opening screen (which it not black).
With some luck I manage to fill in the username and login. Then the system (Plasma on a 64-bit PC with 4 GB memory) starts smoothly in graphical mode. No further problems until now (apart from Google Earth crashing).
In the system log files I do not see problematic warnings. The SDDM greeter seems work normal.
But: in the X-Org Log file I find this error line:
Information [ 76.100] (EE) Failed to open authorization file "/var/run/sddm/{6a66ef25-2155-4aa5-898d-f462c479ed26}": No such file or directory
Googling didn't give any helpfull clues on this error.
Now my question is: what causes this error, and how can I correct this mad blinking greeter?
Maybe I could install the old Nvidia driver 304.137, which is still available at the site of Nvidia? That driver was o.k. for my Geforce 6200 graphics card.
The driver nvidia340.107.9, that is part of MGA7, is not suitable for my graphics card.
Thanks for any hints.
Marc.
