Nvidia driver not working with kernel 5.11KDE Display

Hello

First of all I like Mageia very much. After switching from Fedora where I got serious problems with KDE from time to time I found Mageia and was very happy.
After update to kernel 5.11 and installing last nvidia drivers via mcc there is no login screen.
The boot screen hangs.
After pressing Ctrl+C I can login but was not able to start kde display manager.
Since I am not very firm with linux debugging where I should look for error messages?
What could be the reason?
I can boot with my last working kernel which was 5.7.

Best regards
Spinni

Meanwhile I will try
Code: Select all
urpme dkms-nvidia-current
urpmi dkms-nvidia-current

Would be nice if someone can point me to the reason why driver did not work and what I can do to prevent this next time.

The current/previous Xorg log seems to be located in /var/log - (EE) denotes errors

Are you still having problems now?

Hello magic

Thanks for your hint.
I was not able start
Code: Select all
urpme dkms-nvidia-current
urpmi dkms-nvidia-current

since I forgot my Super User pw.
What can I do ?
How Can I restore my su pw?
I will try to install sudo via mcc.

Spinni

If you can start MCC, you still know your root password, no? You can just start a root console from within MCC.

Otherwise root password recovery is the same as for any other linux: For the kernel boot options append init=/bin/sh and set a new root password.

Hello doktor5000

If you can start MCC, you still know your root password, no?

I use my user pw to login to MCC.

I now have installed sudo and try to rebuild the module.

Thanks!

Hello

I did not try to rebuild the nvidia driver via
Code: Select all
urpme dkms-nvidia-current
urpmi dkms-nvidia-current

for some reason and after I boot with kernel 5.4.
I can login without problems?
Why I did not have to rebuild the driver?
My current Nvidia driver version is 430.xx
Is this okay?

Sorry, I don't really get what you're asking for. You probably didn't have to rebuild the driver module for kernel 5.4 because that only needs to be done once, when the kernel is booted for the first time.
For the nvidia driver version, why shouldn't that be OK?

Hello

I try to describe.
I had update the nvidia driver via mcc a few weeks ago.
After that during reboot a info tells me that the nvidia driver were rebuild.
Then the screen remains black. I can't login.
So I switched back to last working kernel 5.3.7.
I could login and everything was fine.
Then I posted the questions here and tried to rebuild the nvidia module.
Which failed duo to lack of su pw.
Then my priority on this went down and I keep kernel 5.3.7.
After last major kernel update to 5.4 I just try to boot fortunately without problems.

What I did not understand is why I can't login with kernel 5.3.11 which was the kernel version
where my nvidia build went wrong. But I can login with kernel 5.4.

I also had this rebuild info screen during boot not anymore.

What I figured out is that the last nvidia driver version for my GC is 440.xx
So I wonder If mageia "think" I did not need to update this.
