Lost OpenGL 4 with recent update to 4.14.56-desktop-1.mga6

Postby leon244 » Jul 26th, '18, 18:23

I run a CAD program which had been using OpenGL 4. After the update, it reported no OpenGL 4 support and reverted to OpenGL 1
When I check under <Sytem Settings><Display and Monitor><Compositor> it reports Rendering Backend as OpenGL3.1 and there is no option to choose OpenGL 4
I have an Nvidia GT470 card and driver is GeForce 420 series and later (chosen automatically by the system)
installed packages are
Code: Select all
nvidia-current-doc-html-390.77-1.1.mga6.nonfree
x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-390.77-1.1.mga6.nonfree
dkms-nvidia-current-390.77-1.1.mga6.nonfree
nvidia-current-cuda-opencl-390.77-1.1.mga6.nonfree
nvidia-current-devel-390.77-1.1.mga6.nonfree
lib64mesagl1-17.3.9-1.mga6
libmesaegl1-17.3.9-1.mga6

mesa-17.3.9-1.mga6
lib64mesagl1-devel-17.3.9-1.mga6

glxinfo | grep OpenGL
Code: Select all
OpenGL vendor string: nouveau
OpenGL renderer string: NVC0
OpenGL core profile version string: 4.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 17.3.9
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 4.30
OpenGL core profile context flags: (none)
OpenGL core profile profile mask: core profile
OpenGL core profile extensions:
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 17.3.9
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30
OpenGL context flags: (none)
OpenGL extensions:
OpenGL ES profile version string: OpenGL ES 3.1 Mesa 17.3.9
OpenGL ES profile shading language version string: OpenGL ES GLSL ES 3.10
OpenGL ES profile extensions:

I had thought Mesa 17.3.9 package provided support for OpenGL 4.
Would appreciate any help you can give.
Thanks in advance.

You're currently using the nouveau driver, hence only software acceleration. That CAD program might require hardware acceleration.

Just checked.
glxinfo |grep direct gives: direct rendering: Yes
It is my understanding that this means that hardware acceleration is enabled, so I am at a loss for what to do.
Thank you

Follow up question: Will access to OpenGL4 under Nouveau be coming in the near future. I have lost some functionality in a program which worked prior to the upgrade.
Thank you
