posting this question on behalf of a colleague at work.
I advised him to put mageia 5 on his imac (https://support.apple.com/kb/sp576?locale=en_US)
about 2 years ago, and hes been very happy with the result, as the software apple supports on this older machine is now not maintained.
however today after an update hes got the black screen.
im still to establish which of these two its got, will find out tomorrow.
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory3
ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory
but has anyone else recently had issues with one of these after a recent update, bearing in mind this might be the first update hes done for a while.
ive given him a mageia 6 CD (64), with instructions to use rescue mode to change to vesa to get his existing stuff off, before upgrading which is well over due anyway.
however any feedback from anyone with one of the above bits of HW will help
regards peter
