Watching DVB-T in cauldron?

Watching DVB-T in cauldron?

Postby vattuvarg » Jun 28th, '18, 18:21

Testing cauldron to see what MGA7 might be like. Is there any application that will allow me to watch DVB-T?

In MGA6 I scan the channels with w_scan and then watch with me-tv. That is not possible in MGA7 as me-tv isn't in the repositories.

Trying gnome-dvb-daemon (or rather gnome-dvb-setup) instead but it fails with a missing initial data error. ...and there is no brute-force scanning to be used as plan B.

What next?

VLC opens the channels files and streams the video. ...in both Xine and DVBv5 formats. Only some manual editing of the files was necessary.

You may want to try kaffeine

Select Television/Configure Television from the menu.
If your TV card is supported by the kernel, there should be one or more "Device n" tabs.
For each of these, configure the Source for your location.
Then select Television/Channels and start a channel scan.
After completion of the scan, select and transfer the channels you want to the left pannel.
You should now be able to schedule recordings and watch live as well as recorded TV

It is a bit strange to run a KDE application in Gnome, but it works. Thank you for the good instructions. Testing now.

The scanning was quick.

The dvb card is a pctv 292e. It has T/T2/C reception.

Another suggestion would be to package w_scan2. The original is available in the repositories, but not the new fork.

Please report that as a package request, after searching if it hasn't been reported yet already: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_repor ... ge_request

I tried my best when reporting the package request. Hopefully it is good enough.
