Hello mageiacommunity,
I'm using mageia now for a little while coming from windows and at first want to express my satisfaction with mageia, I really like the easiness and intuitivity with wich everything is used. Thanks for providing such a nice system!
Now my problem:
I'm using a radeon HD 5650 graphics and with the open source ati driver I am totally content during normal use, but if I am playing games from paradox interactive the whole system crashes. I get a screen, that can just been stuck or gets black or sometimes it even flashes blue or red.
Because not just the game crashes but the whole system I'm guessing it to be a hardward issue. Although, on the same system using windows before the games worked perfectly fine. So I'm suspecting the graphic driver making issues.
I tried installing the proprietary driver (radeon/fglrx). During installation I get suggested to install a newer driver version with additional features. So I did, but after rebooting I get a fatale system error („Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occured and the system can't recover.“) on top of a white screen. The only way to solve this is rebooting into failsafe mode and uninstalling that driver version. In the failsafe terminal I get the message „fglrx (15.302-4.mg5.nonfree) already installed on this kernel“ after booting. (If I chosse the driver version without the additional features everything is fine.)
So my question: Any suggestions why I can't use that driver, how to get it working or how to find out what keeps my system crashing like that?
Thanks,
Luis
