(Fixed)Warning to AMD gpu users DKMS issue

Postby pete910 » Jun 13th, '16, 19:59

Warning to AMD gpu users regards the 4.4 kernel update that use the cat 15.12's.

Don't as there is no driver/module built to go with it. stick to previous kernel 4.1

Edit:

edited the edit :D

Are you sure? That's not what the advisory says:
http://advisories.mageia.org/MGAA-2016-0089.html

Install dkms-fglrx etc. and the module will be built and installed automatically.

It wouldn't build it jim + the fact the driver is not available for the 4.4 kernel in the repos .

I would like to try AMDGPU driver but that requires the 4.6 + kernel. Also requires CIK support enabled in the config.

Builds and installs fine here:

Code: Select all
# dkms status -m fglrx
fglrx, 15.302-4.mga5.nonfree, 4.4.13-desktop-1.mga5, x86_64: installed

Do you have dkms-fglrx and the devel kernel installed?

Binary kernel modules are no longer provided for proprietary video drivers. They are considered to be in violation of the GPL. The modules are built by dkms instead.

Yes I do have dkms as it's what the 4.1 is using too, Strange. It's still not showing fglrx for the 4.4 kernels in the repos. Could be a sync thing i suppose.

I'll have to have look into it later this evening. Obviously something my end if its built fine for you

My bad, seems dkms was complaining of too many in the tree. Had to remove them before it would build it

thread needs deleting/removing

Nope, actually we don't delete any threads at all - in the end it might still be helpful.

You mentioned too many dkms modules managed, how many was too many, what order of magnitude are we talking about?
50? 100? 200? more ?

3, which is why I was confused , 1 for each of the previous kernels I had installed :? Had to remove them all before it would build it.

That's not much, on regular system you usually have at least a dozen after several kernel updates if you don't manually remove older kernels.

Please mark the thread accordingly by editing the topic of the first post and prefix it by [DONE] and adjust the thread title slightly ;)
