[DONE]Problem with GeForce 210 and plymouth

Postby M_R » Nov 8th, '14, 07:15

Hello guys.

I have a nicely set up Mageia 3, but today I decided to add a graphics card: Nvidia Geforce 210.

Now it doesn't boot...

Everything goes well at first: grub appears, Mageia starts, but it freezes on this line:

"Started Trigger Flushing of Journal to Persistent Storage"

When I press ctrl + alt + supr, I see "Failed to start Show Plymouth Reboot Screen" and a "[failed]" message next to it (on the right side of the screen).

If I start the system in failsafe mode, everything goes well. I can use startx as root at the prompt andf KDE comes up just fine.

Can you help me please?

EDIT: nevermind, I disliked the fact that the card was overheating and decided to abandon the idea of using it. I'll just continue using the integrated graphics card.

Just adding only regarding to plymouth.
Remove 'splash' (remove also 'quiet' is better) will disable plymouth. It will boot whether plymouth is working or not.
Then fix your plymouth (or disable it) when booted.

[edit] - I did not say remove 'splash and 'quiet' at the linux line of grub menuentry.

Thanks for the reply. It's a good thing I decided against the card. Turns out the repositories for the nvidia drivers have "invalid RPMs" or something (in order to validate your solution I tried the card again, got past the initial issue but then hit this new one).

Anyways, thank you for your reply. I'll try a differente card later.
