[SOLVED] vlc and bluray

[SOLVED] vlc and bluray

Postby tarazed » Aug 22nd, '14, 00:29

There are many posts on the web about vlc support for bluray. The tutorials indicate that libaacs0 and libbluray1 are required. I have both of these and also the KEYDB.cfg file from whonowsmy.name. Yet, when vlc runs with the no menu titles option checked all the bluray disks I have tried return an error, something about not finding the KEYDB.cfg file, maybe not valid - can't remember. Has anybody else tried to play commercial bluray disks with vlc?

I sometimes run fluendo-dvd to play DVDs and have checked Fluendo's position regarding bluray. They claim that it is not in sight for Linux.

Found a bluray which does play in vlc. It seems that the simple recipe I used applies to only those disks issued before 2012 when BD+ encryption was added. There are efforts to circumvent this but it is all experimental at the moment I believe. So this problem is solved, sort of.

Another problem is that most newer blueray discs use javascript menus, and those can't be displayed by most open source player implementations.
