[SOLVED] Dual monitor, both screens are the same

Hello,

I decided to add the monitor of an older computer to my current one so i can dual monitor it. But the problem is they both display the same screen. In system settings, it appears to recognise that i have 2 monitors, as it lists CRT1 and CRT2 as connected, but when i try to place them side by side and click apply, all the settings go back to what they were before i changed them and the screens still are identical.

I have an nvidia card and have installed its proprietary driver.

My xorg.conf file seems to list only one of my monitors though. Maybe this is the problem? I can't find how to install a second monitor though. Any ideas?

You need to install nvidiautils package from the repos.
Having done that, in a root console type 'nvidia-settings' without the apostophies.
You may need to set the screens as seperate rather than one screen.
When you have things set as you want them click the save button. Restart the display and you should be good to go.
It's been a while since I set mine up so I may have forgotten something.

One thing I would suggest is copying your xorg.conf to something that you will remember should something go wrong.

Which repos are we talking about? I can't find this package in rpmdrake. I tried both as nvidiautils and nvidia-utils but nothing appears.

Sorry, I did say it was a while since I set mine up.
If you have installed the proprietary driver by setting up your display via mcc then you will have the application installed.
Take a look in the menu under tools->system tools you should see an entry for NVIDIA Display settings.
You can use the one in the menu, however you will not be able to save the settings to your xorg.conf.
You need to use the 'nvidia-settings' from a root console to be able to save the settings. Sorry for the confusion.
