[SOLVED] Youtube Webm Format

[SOLVED] Youtube Webm Format

Postby saptech » Dec 9th, '12, 04:41

What do I need to view the webm format online? I can hear the audio portion but do not see anything. If I download the video, I can see & hear it without problems.

Thnx.

Which browser are you using to view it, and please post an example link. So far it worked for me without problems in Firefox.

I'm using Firefox 17.0.1 ESR with A2G3.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5350599/Youtube_Screenshot.png

I've tried it with Epiphany also and it starts off blank, but can hear the music. After a few seconds, Epiphany will crash, by closing itself out. I used the same video.

My video card is an Intel 810.

Thnx.

Can you please provide a direct link? And what does A2G3 mean?
I've tried the one on your screenshot, and for me it plays as a Flash video, and without problems.

Do you mean direct link to the video? If so here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sorn-3DHTC8

I meant to type M3A2 with Gnome 3.

When I save the file it show as 'name youtube.webm'

I can see the video of .mp4. I have no problem with those.

With what do you download it? Even when i enable HTML5 playback in my youtube account, it only plays as Flash video for me.
Just try to right-click on the video, the last menu point should tell "about flash player version ......"

After poking around Settings, I see this from Youtube.

YouTube HTML5 Video Player
You are in a trial for HTML5 video on YouTube. Some users of supported browsers are automatically entered in to the trial. If you wish to leave the trial, use the link at the bottom. HTML5 is a new browser technology that allows us to show videos without the Flash plug-in.

When I opt-out of the trial for HTML5, now all videos are showing. I didn't know I was in the trial until now.

Thnx.

To download, I use Downloader Addon for FF.
When I right-click on the video, it wasn't showing anything about Flash, like it normally does.

Since I switched from the HTML5 format, everything works fine. It's using Flash only.

Why would I not get a the video I wonder, would it be codecs?

Thnx.

Well, .webm is supported out-of-the-box by Firefox: http://www.808.dk/?code-html-5-video
The example linked there, http://www.808.dk/pics/video/gizmo.webm works just fine here. It doesn't work for you?

I can even play two videos on the same page in parallel, in HD and without stutter, not like with Flash:

I'm not sure why but it will not play for me. All I get is a black screen, but I can hear the audio portion. The post of the link I pasted show the youtube video playing with the black screen.

Thnx.

Code: Select all
rpm -qa | grep vpx

Sorry for getting back to this late.
