I'm a long time slackware user. That have 32bit hardware that i still use for legacy stuff. I installed the kde desktop. And liked the default branding. Still trying to wrap my head around rpm spec files. It's not as convoluted as guix scheme packaging. But it's interesting. I hope to be able to contribute to packaging software.

For elder hardware often lighter desktops are beneficial.
We have many to choose from, https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Desktop_environments
I often use LXDE or Xfce.
