Hi, my name is Muhammad Syahadat, I am from Indonesia. First try Linux sometime in 2008 when I got Ubuntu 8.04's cd from ShipIt, then I tried Mandriva, Fedora and openSUSE. And it turns out my choice fell on Mandriva. And now I use Mageia.

Hey y'all, I'm Russell. I'm from a small town in Arizona. I'll be heading off to Indianapolis for college, though. I'm a fan of many things, but computers is one of my grander favorites.

I've never been consistent with Linux distributions. I've gone from Ubuntu to Debian to openSUSE to Mint to Crunchbang, etc...but I feel that mageia is a good fit. Anyway, I'm interested in helping mageia grow, but I'm fairly inexperienced in Linux. I'm sure mageia will fix that though.

Well, that's me. ;)

Hello everyone, my name is Cody. :D

I live in Mississippi, in the USA. I really like using computers to keep up with stuff and Internet, and I like to use Linux to do it, because I can change it all the time with themes and stuff, so it never gets stuffy. <3
Ubuntu was my first taste in using Linux, and it used it all the time for years until I heard about Mageia from Distro Watch. So, now I use Mageia all the time. <3

Greetings from Finland!

I am 29 years old linux freak. I have used / tested differend distros during last few years. Mepis, Kubuntu, Suse, Debian etc... And Mandriva was the best experience. Untill now I found Mageia. You can found me with nickname herbie at several Irc networks (freenode, ircnet and quakenet). And finnish readers remember to check out #mageia-fi.

Hi all.

I'm Josh, living in Abilene, TX. I've been lurking in the shadows following Mageia's progress since it was first announced. Mandrake was my first Linux desktop back in the day (circa 1999-200ish), and I fell in love with it. Over the years though, I became disillusioned with some of the choices made by the company. Around 2002-03-ish, I jumped ship to Debian (and a quick tour with Ubuntu in the early releases) and stayed there for many years until moving to Fedora - where I have been for the past couple of years. Professionally I have worked as a Linux/BSD/Solaris (yuck) sysadmin for the past 7-8 years. Mandrake/iva has always had a special place in my heart since it was the distro that launched me into what has now become a very nice career path for me. Community-wise, I have been involved with packaging and development, bug triage/patch submitting, as well as infrastructure & sysadmin duties for a few smaller distros here and there.

Anyway, I finally found the time to do a Mageia install and have absolutely been blown away! The developers and associated community have really done a great job of putting this all together in a sane, elegant, cohesive package. You have my congratulations and my thanks!

I'll be lurking around here until I get a feel for things and how they work. I hope to maybe be able to contribute in some way to this community. Between work, finishing my degree in software engineering, and life in general, available free time can be a bit short for me. But as my schedule slows, I hope to find a niche I can fit in with here and help in any way I can. Thanks again and glad to meet all of you!

Welcome, all of you who joined recently, feel free to look around, ask questions and share your ideas and knowledge.

To me the most amazing thing is to be able to greet people from places I've never seen and probably will never see. So, there IS life outside Europe, the pictures on tv are no fake? :)

Have fun!

Hello there! My name is Louis.
I've only been using Linux for the last year or so...
Everybody else here seems to be a Linux veteran. I feel left out :(
Haha, when I heard of a new distro that was about I felt compelled to come take a look (It's like me)!
I've been running Mageia KDE for the past couple of days and so far I'm really liking it!

Thanks for all the work everyone has done to allow me to try this awesome new distro,
I think I'll stick around a while and see where it goes :D

Although many already have made their introduction to the forum through this topic,
we very much would appreciate all newcomers to just write a few words.

There has not been any new message since about two weeks.
But we could be more than happy welcoming quite a number of newcomers.

Come on guys and girls, just leave a message!!!

And have a wonderful and magical time around!!!

Hello,
As a new member of this forum I like to introduce myself.
I am from the Netherlands, aged 65, and I am a linux user for about 9 years, mainly Mandriva.
I am member of MCNL (MandrivaClub.NL).
During those years I contributed to solve a number of problems which I and others faced as end-users, but I don't call myself as a linux-specialist. I helped others at solving problems which were a problem for them but not for me.
As a said, I mainly used Mandriva. At this moment Mageia 1 has been installed on my desktop and laptop because the KDE-version offered by Mageia is more recent and the implementation of LSB seems to be better than on Mandriva 1010.2 (important for googleearth and skype!).
I expect to make a new choice when Mandriva 2011 has been released and I shall give it a fair chance to gain my preference.

Wim

Hi,

My name's Marja and I live near Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Mageia LiveCD -1- beta2 was my first introduction to Mageia, and I got hooked right away. I was so glad to see that it worked flawlessly on a system that, I think since MDV2010, froze every time I tried Mandriva live.
Today, Mageia 1 is on most machines I look after and I'm running Mageia Cauldron on the one I'm using right now. July 5th I started using Cauldron because, not being a developer or packager, I wanted to contribute by testing. My only major issue is, that if I run into a small problem (haven't had any big problems at all), I somehow don't get myself to go to the forum.
A few weeks ago, for instance, I started a second X-session (something I hadn't done in years) and ctr + alt + F7 didn't take me back to my first session, it gave a black screen without a cursor or anything. Only yesterday I found out that ctrl + alt + F8 does take me back. I'm sure that if I had consulted the forum, I would have found that solution much sooner.

So, I suppose I read all of the 7 pages of this thread, yesterday, to become more familiar with the Mageia forum and its users/contributors and I'm writing this to start getting used to posting something in a forum and in a language the whole world can read ;)

Hi Marja!
Just a quick tip: if you can't be bothered to write something on the forum, check out the IRC channel, #mageia on Freenode.
Also, the Ctrl+Alt+F8 threw me too, because on Mandriva it was F9 :P

Thank you Marja for introducing to the Mageia-community.
Feel welcome and enjoy this fresh new distribution, as i know you will, and actually do for some time.

It is not only for the sake of making another great Linux-spin-off, but even more for the sake of feeling familiar.
We are into it to make Mageia a world-wide ease-to-use Linux operating-system.
In a way everyone is able to stick in.

We are looking forward to see your contributions in any possible way!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey! My name is Mark, I'm from Canada. Made the easy switch from Mandriva 2011 after seeing how GNOME support sucked. Nice to see some features stayed here and were polished! Thanks for the great distro guys! :D
