[SOLVED] remove/change image size restriction of 640x480

Postby doktor5000 » Oct 8th, '12, 19:13

As subject says,

please change image size restriction of max. 640x480 px.
As those are only linked, and most images and screenshots are far bigger, please remove
the restriction or change it to something that allows most pictures to be linked, or at least to 1024x768.
Weird thing is that resctriction does not apply to uploaded images, which seems kinda inconsistent to me.

Also it would be nice to have options for [img] tag, to change the displayed size of bigger images,
but that would only be a bonus and is no priority.

That's one of my most wanted!
I always hate it when people post big size picture with the IMG tag, not thinking that people with smaller Notebooks like Netbooks and Subnotebooks (also tablets) have to scroll sideways on the whole page when such a picture exceeds 9xx px (don't forget the sidestripes of the forum page). IMHO 800x600 is the ideal pic size. You can always post a link to the original in full size if you uploaded it to some server.

No restrictions - I like it. And if they are biger than 400x400 they must be put in a spoiler Image

Example link via the img BBCode to our official logo on official Mageia media page, size 15KB, image resolution is 807 x 363.

Your images may only be up to 640 pixels wide.

EDIT: fixed image tags to test new size.

This is totally ridiculous, i can upload a ~3MB image with a resolution of ~2500x1500, bu i can't even link with the img tag to our official
logo as it is wider than 640 pixels? Even when the picture will never be wider than the post, as you need to scroll in bigger pictures?

Sorry but this is totally inconsistent and broken, this needs to be fixed. The other way round, limiting the size of attachments
i'd maybe comprehend, as that uses our webspace, but just linking to larger pictures than 640x480?

I can understand your frustration and I agree it is inconsistent.
However, I'm not sure it can be easily fixed. For the forums upgrade and for hacks that need to be tested, we're still waiting for a vm that our overloaded sysadmin team will hopefully someday provide.
Some times it is better to learn to live with imperfection.

After discussion with forum team the limit has been raised to 1280x1024

(If needed we can raise it further)

But the result will be that big images will be partially visible in a fixed size dl / dt :-(

=> Afterwards we'll need to find a clean solution to show these reduced (using css if we can) to ease forum reading for users.

i hope that will be ok

edit : test (i just did a little bit of css tweaking)

+1
Either that, or required to have a thumbnail link used.

HI, just got here.
On the forum that I am site admin on, we just set ours to 768 X 768. We founf that to be a good compermise for everybody. We only loose a little of the right side and a bit of the bottom.
Just wanted to chime in from experience.
