[SOLVED] Default link settings

I notice that links to external sites always open in the same window. It would be really useful if - by default - they opened with target="_blank" so I don't lose the site when I click on links. Or if I have the option to choose in the control panel.

Obviously there are many ways for users to open links, depending on how they access the site. Maybe it's less of a problem for some people.

Personally I don't use a mouse on my laptop, so no middle click and I don't keep my hands over the keyboard when I'm browsing. Often I browse on my Android or iPad and I usually forget to long-press links for a tab option. I hate using the back button to navigate when I can simply use a tab. Research suggests that most people are the same, especially on mobile platforms.

It's just a friendly suggestion. Sorry if I missed something. I had a look in my user CP options and I searched the forums before posting.

Press the "Ctrl" key and click with the left mouse button or touchpad button on the link and the link will open in a new tab.

Thanks Willie! Where can I find [CTRL] key or mouse/touchpad on my iPad and Android?
I do know the shortcuts. I just like things simple.

With firefox on android : keep your finger a little bit longer on the link then choose "open in a new tab"

A long press could also be tested on iOS...

The same with Chrome on android, also the same for WebOS.

The long press works universally (Android, iOS devices, et al)

Clearly this is a design choice and I must respect the decision that has been made.
