Can we please have kmail1 back.

Guys,

whoever (and I know it's not the Mageia community) released kmail2 into the wild should be shot. There is NO WAY this piece of crap is ready for prime time.

Can we PLEASE have kmail1 back again until this is sorted?

Ta

Peter Nunn.

ps.. yes, I have posted bug posts to KDE but they seem to have fallen into a black hole.

You may have missed that you are posting in a subforum for Cauldron.
In Cauldron development versions and breakage is expected, and Cauldron is not for "prime time".
If you want a stable system, use Mageia 1, where kmail2 is not even available. Somehow i don't understand your complaint.

Doktor5000 I fully understand the implications of using cauldron (I've been sitting on the bleeding edge of mandriva and now this distro for years). The problem I have with Kmail2 is that it is totally unusable, and there seems to be no action at all on bugs listed with KDE. It seems to me that this product has been pushed out the door in pre alpha not even beta state. Its simply not even ready for testing.

Well, then use another mailer until Kmail2 is fully ready.
I can recommend Thunderbird, using it since before 1.0
and never had a problem with it in those 7 years. ;)

You may be right.. perhaps thunderbird and sunbird could fill the void.

Well, you can use Lightning integrated into Thunderbird instead of standalone Sunbird, but i don't use that calendar stuff that much.

Kmail2 screwed up for the last time today. I have been trying to use it (to help test) but today I removed a calendar from it (a gcal one that wasn't working, much like the rest of it) and it totally screwed plasma (desktop crashed every time it started).

After about 2 hours of trying to fix it with the config files the only option that actually worked was urpme kontact. So good ridens to bad rubbish. I know this isn't a Mageia issue.. but no one at kde seems to be interested.

They are seriously going to have to fix this before they put the new KDE out there or all hell is going to break loose much like it did when 4 was released.

Yeah well pnunn, i fully understand your irritation. Had some hazardous times with KMail myself in recent years.
But as doktor5000 already suggested, why not switch over to something which does work, like Thunderbird for instance.
Never heard any complaint here at my place, where KMail was replaced by Thunderbird.
