kmail2 first impressions.

Postby pnunn » Aug 5th, '11, 01:02

Hi folks,

just thought I'd pass on a couple of thoughts on kmail2 that is now in 4.7. I've got to say that first impressions are not good. Its taken me about half a day to get the layout in any sort of reasonable state and I have the following issues still.

The Number in the "unread" column is left justified which means if you don't have another column displayed (whether your interested in the information or not) you can't see the number of unread messages in the folder view easily at all.

Every time you delete a message or new messages come in, the folder view seems to re-draw itself completely and so is constantly jumping around the place, very distracting, and didn't happen in the previous version of kmail.

The message view layout won't save the column spacing between restarts.

The tagging is much better, and I think the general usefulness of the package is improved, but it has some pretty rough edges still.

The migration seems to be the real problem.
Did you try starting from a fresh configuration just in case ?
With that option kmail seems to be more stable (at least it's working correctly here even it's missing several features from older kdepim 4.4.x )

I did clean out the configs and start again. Its working now, but I'm still not convinced its a step forward.
