Problem with sound

Postby petrherynk » Apr 13th, '11, 13:03

I have problems with setting up sound both in KDE and Gnome. I must switch on settings and set up volume, which is on zero. Thanks for solving.

Some more informations please.

Which Soundcard? Onboard, PCI or usb-audio-interface?

Is the soundcard recognized by MCC? If yes, is pulse-audio activated?

cheers,
Bernd

I have ‎N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller. I have installed pulse and I work with it.

OK.

First try the following:
In the MCC (hardware/sound) there is a button to adjust the mixer settings to default values (don't know exactly the description, my system is german language).

Try this.
There is a good chance, that this would solve your problem.

If not, then ...
disable pulseaudio and reboot

In console (shell):
alsamixer

Your onboard chip should be recognized. If not, select with F6
Adjust mixer settings (master and others). Dont use maximal values, 90 is enough to avoid distortions.
Now your soundcard should work.

Exit alsamixer

We have to save the settings (as root !!!!!) with
alsactl store

To use the same settings after reboot, edit /etc/rc.d/rc.local

put in the last line:
alsactl restore

Hope I could help ...

cheers,
Bernd
