since yesterdays 100 package update, to mageia 5 beta
all my gtk apps like gimp and firefox are now using gtk widgets instead of the kwin ones under lxqt.

ive wiped my .config and .kde4 directories so i could start again, but under kde 4 firefox used kde widgets under lxqt
its using gtk.

change happened imeadiatly after fridays update.
also the back menu of lxqt is no longer the lxqt preferences, its desktop preferences

Didn't understand that one, what back menu are you referring to?

For firefox, it will only use KDE filepicker and integration when it detects a KDE session. If it worked before, that's probably coincidence.

Will have a look for the other part of the issue.

sorry backmenu is an old sun name for right click on desktop

so did gimp, and other gtk apps

now firefox looks like some old motif app, as does gimp, libre office , something is missing, like a gtk to qt emulation

I don't get what the problem is. It has been called Desktop preferences before, and it leads to the same sub-menu as before, which is from pcmanfm.
Checked with one VM put through all current updates as of now, compared with one that had it's last update a month ago, and they behave and look the same.

For firefox, that may be the case, I've not mentioned something else. It's just that the patches used for firefox for KDE integration were probably not intended to do that.

For all other GTK apps, that would be the theme. We're using oxygen-gtk theme engine for that, cf. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Un ... oxygen-gtk
Maybe it has an issue after the recent GTK+ and GTK3 updates. Although I don't see any issues here as mentioned previously.
Check if you have oxygen-gtk and oxygen-gtk3 packages installed, and also the respective lib- packages for both.
And please post a screenshot to share what you encounter, including the currently chosen widget theme in LXQt appearance settings.

there are other changes that have broken the install

like now im looking at kde instead of lxqt as it appears to be broken.

firefox just plain wont start, palemoon does

and yes i do have oxygen-gtk and gtk3 installed

i think ill just dump mga5 for now and rebuild with 4.1

ok forget the backmenu that was a bum steer, was building a 4.1 system for someone the other day, with rasor qt, and must have got it stuck in my head that that was the normal backmenu.

however ive reversed friday and many weeks updates, by restoring my last build snapshot from clonezilla and i no longer have the problem.

now before i go applying all my custom changes im doing and update, to see if it breaks the gtk-qt on gtk apps,
as right now all my gtk apps look like kde apps, as ive grown to expect.

part way through the upgrade i opened firefox , and its widgets are now like motif.

so its one of them.

ive changed nothing but the update, so its in fridays update that the gtk-qt widgets are broken in lxqt.

OK so now im doing the above but with /^gtk/ and /^lib64gtk/ added to urpmi skip list

one of these two are at fault as ive installed everything, but for these and there dependancies,
and lib64gtk* is not in the list above.

running an lsof on my system i can see

firefox has a library hook

firefox 7805 peter mem REG 8,1 1437424 672573 /usr/lib64/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/liboxygen-gtk.so

so its probably the gtk2 one at fault

so one of those is broken, in the sence of the symptom im reporting.

was the pre friday update 2.24.25-3 in the repos, im not sure as i did not check the package prior to the update.

however the words "on't force Oxygen like gtk+3.0 package" do seem to implicate this change as responsible.

how else would you ensure that lxqt did force oxygen as a theme without gtk forcing it..

Well, lxqt uses it's own theme. And GTK should use adwaita by default.

But feel free to report that as a bug against GTK.

forgive me if im misunderstanding your point of view,
but are you saying that its ok to have one set of apps, firefox, libraoffice, pidgen all using one theme while
other apps use another under lxqt.

if so this creates an inconsistent look and feel across the apps, which is not good, does not happen under
kde, or previous versions of mageia till this update.

im trying to get across that i think mageia 5's code is now broken by this change with respect to lxqt.

i can report it as a bug, but unless im misunderstanding you, you seem to be indicating this is to be expected.

I've not followed -dev mailing list that well recently, so cannot really tell what the motivation behind this is.

Seems it was intentional, although I don't get the intention, and would also think that this is now broken, after re-reading your explanation and some context.

So the default GTK theme was removed, this was what it set: http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/cauld ... rev=813539
It now does not enforce oxygen-gtk theme anymore, so this explain what you describe, but only for fresh installations.

But this would only change the default, but not your existing user, as I also use a lot of GTK apps and cannot reproduce here.

KDE should still use oxygen-gtk by default, and you should be able, too - simply add the same gtkrc files like KDE does, but put them directly into $HOME.

yes you have hit the nail on the head, with what im seeing.

but after the update my apps dont look like Adwaita

they look like motif, am i missing something that is needed to make gtk apps look even similar to oxygen, or is it quite simply they are
changing the tight integration that qt apps and gtk apps have under lxqt, and dont give a hoot who does not like it.

ive tried resetting my desktop by starting again, deleteing .kde4 and .config and starting again, so that would imply fresh start.

im constantly saying to myself, this cant be, i must be missing something.

ive just looked at the files you refered to, and i can see how that works, but why does firefox and libre office look ok under kde4 but not lxqt with kwin.

Can you please attach a screenshot so that I can see what looks like old motif toolkit?

im not now touching my desktop until this is fixed,
as unusually im using mageia 5 beta as my main desktop
i felt it was the only way i could properly dedicate good feedback to this release.

but ive got a machine i was using for testing 4.1, and ill rebuild it with
beta2 and capture a screen shot, just until now ive had little time to
dedicate a few hours to it.

Would probably be even more helpful for the sake of testing to directly upgrade it to latest cauldron.

OK the beta update from a fully updated 4.1 kde to a fully updated mageia 5 using the last night released megeia 5 beta3 dvd worked fine.
no problems at all, from a stability and smooth upgrade point of view.
and this was using my old troubled in the past motherboard with upgraded.
in the past if there was an update or upgrade from mageia this board used to show them all
its as asrock vsta nforce 3 motherboard with agp geforce 6800GT phenom 1 9560

so thats the feedback done.

and of couse the awfaull gtk menus with a completly different shade of grey and harsh boarders to the other qt apps they are now back on all gtk apps like firefox and libra office and filezilla.
making those apps look like apps made for the 1990's era of computing on CDE or Motif.
and its not just limited to menus, dialog boxes also look all square edged , dark gray, and out of step.

and i can confirm that the following fixes the problem

it does not work

so how to get firefox , libreoffice, filezilla, gimp, VLC now, to have the oxygen-gtk look under lxqt. please

amendment: the answer is gtk-chtheme

just force it back to oxygen-gtk

after installing gtk-chtheme-0.3.1-13.mga5.x86_64
