Mageia 5 beta 2 uefi test result

Postby MadmanRB » Jan 21st, '15, 08:52

I know that the beta team is really having issues with grub2 and uefi but on my test case I say partial sucess.
With legacy mode the beta boots fine on my one and only UEFI hardware (a HP Pavillion 15-n211dx laptop) using grub 2.
boots an runs fine on legacy mode, does squat on UEFI mode but UEFI is evil anyway thus why i dont use it.
Just hope to put out my test case, software end looks fine but i will be rolling this machine back to Mageia 4 here soon as I dont want its owner to be running a beta.
Not sure how much more useful this can be to the developers but its something at least.

Did you use a Classical DVD or a Live DVD? EFI-boot is known to not work with a Classical DVD but is believed to work with a Live DVD.

I used a USB key actually, I could buy a stack of DVD's if you want.
I typically dont use DVDs anymore for installing things.

I should have been more precise - I meant which ISO did you use?

No-go on macbook pro. Messages about missing ACPI packages.

live X86-64 DVD. Tried both grub and grub2.

Will not boot live. Can install to HDD but will not boot.

rEFIt 0.8.4 boot manager.

Cheers

Macbooks are notorious for this sadly. most of them only want OSX on them.

Had Mageia 4 and Mageia 5 alpha working on this machine earlier (one at a time).

Be careful not to confuse secure boot and EFI boot. Work is ongoing to support EFI boot in Mageia 5. Mageia has no plan to support secure boot.

The machine I have does use UEFI, as I have to be careful what distro I pop on it.
