[SOLVED] KDE KF5-plasma available for testing-Mga5 Alpha 2?

Hi,

Is KDE Frameworks 5 available for testing on Mageia 2 Alpha 5?

Blog and wiki mentions KF5:

Mageia wiki: More information about alpha 2
      KDE
KDE 4.13.95 is now available in alpha 2.
Qt 4.8.6 KDE5 is on coming slowly too, you can check it with kf5* packages

What does that mean?
If I install the packages kf5* I'll be able to test KDE Frameworks 5 or only Qt 4.8.6 KDE5?

I thought the KDE graphical environment would change after installation of kf5* packages.
I installed several kf5* packages on Mga5-A2 and I have not seen change on the graphic environment KDE.

What I have to do to test the new graphical environment of KDE (Plasma 2)?

I think it is important to elucidate this doubt, to better publicize the release of Mageia 5 Alpha 2.

[list]Note: Doctor 5000, I had not read the errata with the explanations you wrote.

Check the Errata: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5_Errata#KDE and the linked bug report there.
Just installed m5a2 to test fresh install and added KF5 and plasma next:

Code: Select all
urpmi plasma-desktop plasma-workspace kinit qttools5 qttools5-qtdbus dbus-x11 solid kded plasma5-libkscreen libkf5kscreen5 kconfig kio kservice plasma-applet-milou milou kf5-krunner kf5-kfilemetadata kwin plasma-workspace-wallpapers xinit xauth xmessage socat

The following is currently required as oxygen package for KF5 doesn't exist currently.
Code: Select all
urpmi plasma-workspace --allow-force --allow-nodeps
urpmi plasma-workspace --allow-force --allow-nodeps

Please check Errata again, I've just updated the list of packages after testing on fresh mga5a2 install.

Ok
I did some testing with Mageia 5 alpha 1 (64bits) updated to Alpha 2 on virtualbox, but still not worked.
tks

Yep, didn't work for me in virtualbox too. Hence I did an installation on usb stick, and there it's working fine.

That's good news.
I'll try again following the suggestion of Nicolas Lecureil (Mageia KDE team), removing kdebase4-workspace and then install the packages you suggested above. This is the correct way?

If you don't have KDE4 installed, then just try with the list of packages mentioned in errata. The meta package will be added later once all the requirements for a basic plasma 5 installation are OK.

I have installed on virtualbox Mageia 5 Alpha 1 KDE, 64bit, updated to Alpha 2.
Should I remove the kdebase4-workspace, and then install the other packages?
These packages are suitable for 64bit too?

Tks

I followed your suggestion and installed the KDE Frameworks 5 (plasma-desktop - plasma-workspace).
I chose to download the installation media and not install KDE and then install the packages listed in the Errata Mageia 5.

I downloaded the Mageia 5 Alpha 2 DVD Classic, 64bit media. I installed xfce4 and LXDE on the virtualbox. I accessed the LXDE and installed the media, I accessed a terminal as root and pasted the list of packages for installation are listed in the Errata do Mageia 5, (copied accessing through Firefox). Once rebooted and I could go to the menu and access the KDE Frameworks 5 / Plasma2:

Is that in virtualbox or on real hardware?

Interesting, same here - couldn't get plasma 5 to work in virtualbox after installation from dualarch DVD.
Maybe I'll try again with full dvd. Thanks for the information.
