Mageia 5 Alpha installer, first impressions

Hi all

info Gigabyte P8B75M-LX mobo with Intel i5 4core single HDD
Installation media : usb Mageia 5 alpha 64bit
updated graphics of installer look much nicer - thanks to those involved.
Installation time is about the same as Magiea 4 onto HDD - 34 minutes.

problems that i had were :
1/ info pane is mobile.
Moving the mouse from left to right over the right 2/3 of screen would cause the info pane to jump to the left, over the installation menu. then doing the reverse would cause it to go back to where it is meant to be. also mouse is able to grab info pane and move it around.

2/ configuration screen.
when scrolling down to lower 1/2 of page buttons disappear.
this means am unable to set up network, firewall etc.

these 2 may be related to graphics device of the mobo?

3/ Grub 2 installer could not or would not install, had to use grub legacy- oh well.

Thanks for the comments. There are numerous display issues in the installer right now. gtk is undergoing heavy development upstream.
Hopefully this type of thing will 'fix itself' as gtk stabilises. By all means create some bugs though for any not already reported. If you do, could you also add 5alpha1 into the whiteboard field of the bug report please. It makes them easier to track.

Could you definitely create a bug report for grub2. State which ISO you were testing at the time and if you had previously had a different arch installed.
(ie. i586 => x86_64 or x86_64 => i586) Was there an error message? You can usually find these in tty1-4 in the classical installer or the journal of the live or installed from live system.

Would you like to help with pre-release testing of the ISOs?

Hello Claire

Much as i would like to dedicate more time to helping Make Mageia, my time is unfortunatly limited- i am sure you have heard this before.
I will attempt to duplicate the grub 2 errors and make a bug report on that.

Impressions are good.
But there were bugs:
1) squid-3.4.6-1.mga5 not run. There are no errors. Installed squid-3.3.11-1.mga4. The work OK!
2) msec-1.4-1.mga5 not run. Installed msec-0.80.10-14.mga4. The work OK!

3) Testing MDS (Mandriva Directory Server).

Installing from source (mmc-core-3.1.0.tar.gz, mds-2.5.0.tar.gz). In mga4.1 it works!!!
Checked: Dynamic ldap server (cn=config), samba,
It is not identify root + password of the LDAP server administrator when you run mmc-agent in the browser .
Replaced php-xmlrpc. php-xmlwriter. php-xmlwriter on versions of packages from Mageia 4.1.
Identifikacija the mmc-agent appeared, but instead of a picture is a white sheet.

This thread is about the installer which you say worked for you.
The issues you bring up are in Cauldron itself which is in constant flux, so a program may work today then updates tomorrow break it.
If it remains broken then report it as a bug after check to see if its already been reported.
