[solved - kind of]kernel update killed wifi

After today's updates and reboot (kernel update) wifi was down again. I tried to get it working but (using MCC from a konsole) I received the message on the konsole:
Code: Select all
Selected interface 'wlan0'
OK
Failed to create host name resolver: The requested operation is invalid because redundant
run-parts: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/hostname.d/avahi exited with return code 1
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.

I had that same message earlier in the boot-up messages although wifi worked so this is not the cause.

Then I rebooted with previous kernel - wifi works.

Previous kernel: 2.6.38.8-desktop -5.mga2
New kernel: 3.0.0-desktop -0.rc7.2.1.mga2
Both x86_64

Welcome in the jungle :geek:
After the update I have no more network connections (lan, wifi)

Will go to drink some wine and then look on the problem.

It's not a jungle, it's a madhouse! :)
Wifi works with the new kernel, no problem. It's just the system (net-applet and network manager) who insist on wifi not working!
Means: net-applet shows the wrong status, that's all.

after my updates of the 2 kernels i booted off of each one of them.
i kept getting lockups randomly. it seems the proprietary video
driver from ati is the problem.

i ditched the ati driver and every is smooth and working great.

after taking in updates yesterday, and vlc was one of them.
my whole system is sluggish, konqi wont run for more than a few seconds.
even posting this on firefox shows some delays . an example. as i type after
a few characters, there is a delay and then it continues.

is there a way to undo the updates i have taken in.

thanks

i meant to say no problems, even after the updates.
