Yeah was an oversight on importing - probably not, at least I won't import it. Good that you remind me,
I need to obsolete compton-conf.

A few hints:

- LXQT systemsettings doesn't show many entries. This is because I've had to strip off the LXQt category from the .desktop
files of nearly all lxqt components. This will be fixed, but for that I need an updated package on the Mageia buildsystem. This is in progress with our sysadmins.

- By default no icons will be shown. You need to go to Preferences -> Appearance and select one of the installed icons themes, e.g. Oxagen or Adwaita and Apply.

- there's a new xrandr frontend, called lxqt-config-monitor

- Dimitrios shared a cool systray applet for weather forecast: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=8630
Can be easily installed via
Code: Select all
urpmi http://www.mageia-gr.org/rpm/5/noarch/meteo-qt-0.1.0-1mgr5.noarch.rpm

From what I can see, LXQT looks quite feature-complete to me.

Hello,
There is problem with unlocking screensaver (xscreensaver) - because of bug https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14194
Maybe is worth to consider removing xscreensaver from task-lxqt until this bug is fixed?

Also meteo-qt weather applet - which you mention in previous post is availble in Cauldron already.

Nope, sorry that's the wrong approach - we cannot remove it from all other packages, because some underlying permission problem from yet another package prevents xscreensaver from working. And as cauldron user you're basically expected to workaround/solve such issues yourself.
Also this wouldn't help users, as it won't remove this package from user systems.

Was quite busy, so haven't seen that yet, it's the first time I hear this. Just added to task-lxqt as Recommends.
But this won't help, as the infrastructure has to be updated, otherwise the new Recommends tags are of no use ;)
Thanks for the hint, though :)

For me is not a problem to solve this, and for sure is acceptable on Cauldron. What I mean here is: it should be excluded from task-lxqt if this underlying bug is not fixed for final mga5 release. Otherwise we will ship something like famous " Blue Screen of Death" for users :) If I remmember corretly this bug with "unlocking screensaver" happends since long time ago.

Like above, I just care about final MGA5 and new installations.

Final lxqt 0.8 packages should hit your cauldron mirrors soon ;)

For the moment I have to interrupt the tries with 0.8.
The processor of my test PC does not support the instructions SSE2.
I think that that's why LXQt does not start:

Actually it's https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13991
Anything that uses QT5 will have that issue.

just feedback over my previous concerns with dropping razorqt.

lxqt in mageia 5 looks to all intents the same as razorqt, but benefiting from a couple of new themes.

although lxqt can be used with openbox, to experience a really light weight window manager, along the lines of
lxde, xfce, etc, and a small installation its not my preference.

I think lxqt's file manager and some of its apps are a bit light weight, and dont do it for me.

using lxqt as a replacement for KDE, but retaining kwin , is in my opinion the best way to go.

currently lauching apps from the task bar are a bit laggy, but im assuming that because mageia 5 beta still has some debug
stuff in the code, so it probably going to get quicker in GA.

but overall, im loving this new desktop, and OS. is it too early to say mageia's best yet..........

I installed the virtualbox and i don't see its desktop file entry in lxqt applications menu, even after reboot.
Do you have the same behavior?

You mean the icons in the panel (including start menu) don't always react? At least that's what I've observed.
There's no special debug code in place , what you see now is the same as later in mga5.

Here it shows up in Other directly after the installation.

Florian, do you have any idea how the menu is generated before i start to search left and right ?
In lxqt, i open konqueror, i type "applications:/" and i have the virtualbx

No, sadly not.
You could try to run menu-cache with various menu definitions to see if it fails.

Code: Select all
LC_ALL=C G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all /usr/libexec/menu-cache/menu-cache-gen -v -i /etc/xdg/menus/lxde-applications.menu -o /dev/null
LC_ALL=C G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all /usr/libexec/menu-cache/menu-cache-gen -v -i /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu -o /dev/null

For clarification, you're running cauldron, and lxqt and virtualbox are installed via Mageia repos?

That's interesting, for those that I've got installed, they all show up as expected.
Sound & Video -> kmix
Acessories -> Mageia Welcome (although without icon, but that's an upstream issue: https://github.com/lxde/lxqt/issues/389 )

If you right-click on the menu button -> Configure the start menu, what is configured for menu file?
/etc/xdg/menus/lxde-applications.menu ?

I don't think so, I also get these.

Another thing, maybe worths a fix, in pcmanfm-qt, i open Tools > Open as Root, then i have the message that it cannot find kdesu
I link kdesu from '/usr/lib64/kde4/libexec/kdesu' to my home (/home/me/bin/) and now pcmanfm can open the folder as root.

Well, it's not always kdesu, here under KDE it tries to run gksu :o
Can you please create a bugreport and assign it to me? Should be easily fixable, easiest way is probably to use pkexec instead.

For the menus previously, i think that i have a problem with my computer.
I find many times this in the syslog:
Jan 21 19:37:02 localhost kernel: [ 1251.102075] menu-cached[6114]: segfault at 1 ip 00007fd864d54b37 sp 00007fff04033118 error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.4200.1[7fd864d1e000+10b000]

and since yesterday i have a problem when i log in , if i open the terminal (any) it crashes and brings me again to kdm. I loggin again and it is ok, but now i cannot open the main menu. I click on and nothing happens.
Also, i have these errors:
Jan 21 19:59:52 localhost kernel: [ 215.784752] lxqt-session[4795]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f74b6f9a533 sp 00007fff04ce79b8 error 4 in libQt5Core.so.5.4.0[7f74b6e94000+4af000]
Jan 21 19:59:52 localhost kernel: [ 215.790613] lxqt-notificati[4971]: segfault at 69 ip 00007fe266a7355f sp 00007ffffbdf5dd8 error 4 in libQt5Core.so.5.4.0[7fe26696d000+4af000]

it smells like a hardware problem but i am not sure...

Not sure about that. Got another user in german forum who has the same problem, lxqt runs fine, but the menu doesn't open up.

Try running
Code: Select all
/usr/libexec/menu-cache/menu-cache-gen -o /dev/null -v -i /etc/xdg/menus/lxde-applications.menu

as normal user and see if it completes or throws up errors. For comparison, this is the error we see:
https://forums.mageia.org/de/viewtopic. ... 681#p26681
Sadly I cannot reproduce, neither on i586 nor x86_64 virtualbox nor on real hardware.

edit doktor5000: Sorry scratch that, didn't look again at your previous posts, sorry.

Something completely unrelated, the pcmanfm quthor wrote an interesting blog post about LXQt performance tips:
http://blog.lxde.org/?p=1333

Feel free to test, investigate and provide feedback if you think LXQt can be improved on Mageia, or if you find any issues.

FWIW, lxqt 0.9 was just released: http://sourceforge.net/p/lxde/mailman/message/33373317/
Currently working on it, maybe I can make it before release freeze is in place.

Thank you, may be my installation will work better with 0.9 as for now is quite unusable. May be is partial related with the post that you pointed me. When i log in lxqt i have these segmentation fault with 5.4 qt library.
